- Analog Giant digs the recent hip hop collaboration between Machine Drum and Theophilus London called “Late Night Operation.” I must concur.

- I Guess I’m Floating provides a spot-on description of the queen of quirkiness Regina Spektor and her new track, “Folding Chair.”

- So Much Silence gives listeners the newest “You Don’t Wanna Know” track from Meanest Man Contest. Like they said…”It’s a doozy.”

- Salad Days Music summarizes the awesome new “Kids” video from MGMT in a one-liner= “The video basically consists of a bunch of scary monsters and creepy puppets terrifying the hell out of small children.” Perfect!!! What’s not to love?

Record reviews in tweet-sized chunks by Douglas Martin from Fresh Cherries from Yakima.

Grizzly Bear- Veckatimest:
Layers upon layers of incredibly detailed musical craftsmanship. Instant Album of the Year contender.
City Center- Self-Titled:
Dude from Saturday Looks Good to Me tries his hand at avant-pop, with spectacular results.
Black Moth Super Rainbow- Eating Us:
Not saying that taking drugs is required for listening to this album, but they help.
John Vanderslice- Romanian Names:
It’s all about consistency, folks. Vanderslice is king at this.
Bloc Party- Intimacy: Remixed:
Wait, so Intimacy wasn’t a Bloc Party remix album?

…………………………………………lyrics…………………………………………

The world was on fire,
no one could save me but you.
Strange what desire will make foolish people do.
I never dreamed that I’d meet somebody like you.
And I never dreamed that I’d lose somebody like you.

No, I don’t want to fall in love.
This love is only gonna break your heart…

Wooden Shjips- Dos:
Recipe: Find a groove, lock in. Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat. Trance music played with traditional rock instruments.
An Horse- Rearrange Beds:
Living proof that boyfriend issues are best solved through a girl belting pop melodies over loud guitars.
The Vaselines- Enter the Vaselines:
If you already own Way of the Vaselines, you still have the definitive collection of tunes by this legendary band.
Iron & Wine- Around the Well:
A thorough collection of rarities and b-sides from everyone’s favorite troubadour. “Swans and the Swimming” alone is worth the price of admission.
White Rabbits- It’s Frightening:
The best Spoon album of the year, unless Spoon actually releases an album this year.
Blank Dogs- Under and Under:
Still sounding like a “blown out Factory Records demo” (artist’s own words, not ours), but in the best possible way.
Crocodiles- Summer of Hate:
RIYL: Jesus and Mary Chain and… uh, Jesus and Mary Chain. And who doesn’t?
Crystal Antlers- Tentacles:
The most songs in 6/8 time ever heard on a punk record. More punks should write songs in this time signature.
Jason Lytle- Yours Truly, The Commuter:
Not quite on the level of Granddaddy’s best work, but close.
Metric- Fantasies:
Aside from “Help, I’m Alive,” which is legitimately great, if you’ve heard one Metric album, you’ve sadly heard them all.

doug mart

Good day, folks! My name is Douglas Martin, and today I’ve decided to introduce a song to Recycled Love Songs= my own cover of Daniel Johnston’s “True Love Will Find You in the End,” which should serve as a pep talk for any of you that need a pick-me-up as far as matters of the heart go. Don’t worry, little one, your time will come soon.

Pleased to meet you all. Peas out.
