The Airborne Toxic Event Wikipedia

I’m a sucker for strings and lyrics, and broken hearted love songs. This one gets props for all three….
The band’s self-titled, debut full-length album was released on August 5, 2008 on Majordomo Records.
The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight
The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight Lyrics
And it starts, sometime around midnight.
Or at least that’s when you lose yourself
for a minute or two.
As you stand, under the bar lights.
And the band plays some song
about forgetting yourself for a while.
And the piano’s this melancholy soundtrack to her smile.
And that white dress she’s wearing
you haven’t seen her for a while.
But you know, that she’s watching.
She’s laughing, she’s turning.
She’s holding her tonic like a cross*.
The room’s suddenly spinning.
She walks up and asks how you are.
So you can smell her perfume.
You can see her lying naked in your arms.
And so there’s a change, in your emotions.
And all these memories come rushing
like feral waves to your mind.
Of the curl of your bodies,
like two perfect circles entwined.
And you feel hopeless and homeless
and lost in the haze of the wine.
Then she leaves, with someone you don’t know.
But she makes sure you saw her.
She looks right at you and bolts.
As she walks out the door,
your blood boiling
your stomach in ropes.
Oh and when your friends say,
“What is it? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Then you walk, under the streetlights.
And you’re too drunk to notice,
that everyone is staring at you.
You just don’t care what you look like,
the world is falling around you.
You just have to see her.
You just have to see her.
You just have to see her.
You just have to see her.
You just have to see her.
You know that she’ll break you in two.
* The correct lyric is indeed “cross”. See here for the explanation from Mikel (lead singer/guitarist).

this is the most beautiful, poetically emotive song i’ve ever heard. but i do have to admit, it’s heartbreaking. ![]()
i give it two thumbs up though. ![]()
I just heard the song for the first time yesterday. It totally hit me, so I started writing down all the words that I could. The killer part is that had to live out the song today. I was wearing the white dress, but he was with someone i hadn’t seen before. And he did make sure I saw him.
Comment by Jo 07.13.08 @ 7:22 pmThe end of the second-to-last stanza is actually:
“You just don’t care what you look like,
the world is falling around you”
it’s NOT “you so care…”
Awesome song!
Comment by JARED 07.21.08 @ 8:25 pmthis is such an amazing song.

Comment by Great 09.02.08 @ 3:52 amI’ve heard this song and just found out the name and I love it!!! It has a lot of emotion from starting slow to full blown pain, I’m going through a divorce and can relate! Keep up the good work!
Comment by Diana23 09.04.08 @ 12:27 pmgreat fuckin’ song… cant wait 2 see ‘em live n N.O. @ tha H.O.B.
Comment by jtrotter81 09.10.08 @ 4:01 am“She’s holding her tonic like a cross” is actually “She’s holding her tonic like a crux.”
love the song since the first time i heard it
Comment by greg 09.10.08 @ 11:13 pmbummer, i really wanted that word to be “cross” :/ but it must be changed for accuracy.
Comment by Stacie 09.10.08 @ 11:19 pmWOW!!! Awesome song. Totally relates to what happened to me the other week at the beach coming out of the water, except she was looking at me while kissing her new boyfriend. This song is like an expression of my heart.
Comment by Lance 09.11.08 @ 11:36 amthis song was made for a dramatic scene in the next heartbreak love story movie. I can see many guys who have lived this song in the past. Solid melodies combined with emotional, pleading lyrics.
Comment by wag 09.12.08 @ 12:24 amThe line “She’s holding her tonic like a crux.”. I can’t find a single dictionary definition of “crux” where that makes any sense, unless the singer is a bishop or was born a serf 800 years ago. Is “crux” a slang term in some country?
Comment by Darryl 09.12.08 @ 3:55 pmok, so i also wanted to know what a crux was… and apparently, this is one of thee definitions :]
↓
A cross or a crosslike structure.
this song gives me the chills. I absolutely love it.
Comment by alison 09.18.08 @ 8:43 pmI listened to the song while reading the lyrics at the same time and my heart is honestly beating so fast it’s insane. It might just be because it’s nighttime and emotions are heightened at nighttime, but it’s rare for a song to do this to me. I agree with the person above me, I absolutely love it.
Comment by Megan 09.19.08 @ 3:27 amI heard this song on the radio and I loved it so much. The lyrics are so amazing.
Comment by Bella 09.24.08 @ 10:20 pmI love this song

Comment by cat 09.26.08 @ 4:03 pmVery intense song. It’s one of those songs where you’ll remember where and when you first heard it. I found the imagery of the words and the powerful song delivery very heart stirring. Wow indeed!
Comment by Bernie 09.27.08 @ 10:52 pmwow i found this song two days ago ive been exactly where this describes it broke my heart in two excellent song
Comment by seeyalater 09.28.08 @ 11:19 pmwords cannot describe this song
Comment by jeff 09.29.08 @ 2:53 pmI heard this song on XM radio the other day, just looked up the lyrics and bought the track today.
This song so expresses exactly how I feel right now.
Comment by Ryan 09.30.08 @ 5:47 pmMove over U2’s “With or without you”. This is one of the most beautifully haunting and heartwrenching songs every composed. The lyrics are so simple, but so powerful, and if you’ve been there, they really are haunting.
On a side note, it kind of helps to see that I wasn’t the only one going through this, and I’m glad someone was able to put it into words.
Moving and breathtaking.
“And the piano’s this melancholy soundtrack to her smile”
Comment by Dal 10.03.08 @ 12:52 amwow…this song is absolutely beautiful.
Comment by Tiffany 10.03.08 @ 1:45 pmThat song hits me straight through the heart. It has made me realize that what I did in the past was awful and to be more faithful from now on.
Comment by Kayla 10.04.08 @ 5:38 amit’s been more than 10 years. Am I going to a concert? Am I going to BUY a cd? I woke up on the couch and had this song in my head. I grabbed the remote and rewound like 90 minutes of videos and started watching them one after another until I found this song. Unbelievable…. how does something this perfect get created by humans!
Comment by IMAD!man 10.05.08 @ 1:16 pmNeedless to say this song is heartbreaking. And I’m sure that anyone can relate in one way, shape or form. as for me the lyrics holds true. Caz all thow I have a girlfriend who love me to death and she’s my whole world. But because of drama from my and her ex’s we can’t tell any one about us just yet. you as you can just imagaion what we feel when we’re out at clubs and there’s nothing that we can to when one of us is getting hit on.
Comment by Anonymous 10.06.08 @ 2:15 pmFor some reason parts of this song vaguely remind me of Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises. I enjoy it thoroughly ![]()
According to Mikel, the lead singer… ” The line is cross and I meant it to mean sort of like she’s holding her drink ominously,as if it’s offering her comfort and guidance.”
Comment by Dave 10.10.08 @ 12:26 amthis song is so heartbreaking as much as i didnt want to listen to it, after listening to it it reminded me of my first true love for more than 3 years and it was amazing but later everything just crashed downhill… I was just broken after the breakup and yet i still wanted him back but we just can’t be together b/c i don’t want him to break my heart again. *sigh*
Comment by Jozy 10.15.08 @ 10:11 amthe first time i heard this song i had to stop what i was doing and sit down.
its amazing it sort of brought a tear to my eye, because it just reminded me so much of a personal experience. anyway it is a well written song…
this song makes me cry…

Comment by paul electric 10.22.08 @ 9:21 amkool song!
Comment by freddy 10.23.08 @ 1:58 pmMy ex played this song for me and told me that it makes him think about me. That tore me up. I didn’t know that he felt that way. And it is such a beautiful song.
Comment by Anonymous 10.27.08 @ 2:42 pmI was actually introduced to this song while laying in bed with my ex after I had gotten off the phone with the new man in my life. He wanted me to listen to the words because it’s how he felt. I left him for a significantly older man. He is still in love with me.. but I don’t have the same feelings. this song cut me deep!
Comment by laura 10.29.08 @ 4:29 pmOne more comment. I can’t stop playing the song..
Comment by laura 10.29.08 @ 4:30 pmit seems to hook you. It almost puts me in a trance.
Comment by laura 10.29.08 @ 4:31 pmomg i have o clue how i heard this song but i absolutely love it
Comment by Kaitlin 11.02.08 @ 10:31 amI was drunk last night…and I swear this was my theme song…
amazingly well put together…
striking in it’s own category, lovely.
Comment by Delta 11.02.08 @ 11:52 amI heard this song for the first time yesterday.
Loved it, but couldnt really relate to it, never had my heart broken
Than my boyfriend broke up with me today…Now i get it fully
Love the song, even with a broken heart
this is one of the most emotional songs i have ever heard. It blows my mind how someone could create this.
Comment by Anonymous 11.06.08 @ 3:37 pmbest heartbroken song
Comment by qwerty 11.07.08 @ 7:07 pm“And the piano’s this melancholy soundtrack to her smile” — I LOVE that line.
Comment by elle 11.11.08 @ 4:04 pmThis song has been HAUNTING me for weeks now and I finally found out the band and name! Awesome song - hits you in the gut.
Comment by Mark 11.12.08 @ 9:38 pmMost everyone has experienced something like this, but not everyone can express it like this. Excellent song.
For me the killer line is:
Oh and when your friends say,
“What is it? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
this song remimnds me of “do you remember the first time?” by Pulp. beautiful song. Definately gave me the shivers in the spine
Comment by nick 11.17.08 @ 4:34 pmThis song is the best in the whole world.
I am a sucker for lyrics and I wish to meet this band one day.
“And it starts sometime around midnight, at least that’s when you lose yourself for a minute or two.”
Comment by I love. 11.18.08 @ 9:25 pmHeard this awesome song on Sirius 21. I have lived it a time or two, myself.

Comment by Josh 11.19.08 @ 8:05 pmMissed my exit the first time I heard this song. So emotional, I love it.
Comment by Anonymous 11.20.08 @ 9:32 pm“You just have to see her you just have to see her,” sounds like me defending why I am so lovesick over a certain girl. The first time I heard it, it really hit me when he says, “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” We have all experienced this when it hits you that you can’t have her. I haven’t bought a CD in 3 years, but that’s about to change…GREAT SONG!!!
Comment by Pete 11.23.08 @ 1:15 amI grew up in the 80’s and this is such a typical moody lyric driven song that I love. And this song reminds me of soooo many times, lived it, been the girl made sure he saw me. And don’t give up hope guys, there is a reason she made sure you saw her…whether or not it ever turns into anything more, the electricity of that feeling is worth the price of admission - cherish it and make it your goal to recapture it
Comment by Lulu 11.25.08 @ 4:46 amIf you like this, you’ll love the Jesus and Mary Chain album Darklands - talk about moody lyric driven. Play it when you really need to excorcise some one out of your life, it works. Darklands, 9 million rainy days, april skies
Comment by Lulu 11.25.08 @ 4:50 amThe first time I heard this song I recognized this emotional love story that was put to this great tune. Excellent song. My new favorite.
Comment by mommacarol 11.25.08 @ 10:25 amI like how the song goes from a whisper to a shout… very poetic… very meaningful and a wonderful portrayal of the emotions underlying the song
Comment by Anonymous 11.27.08 @ 9:14 pmIs agteat song I can really see it hapening to just about every men
Comment by Simon 11.27.08 @ 10:11 pmWhen I first heard this song I had to hide my eyes for a couple minutes. I didn’t realize what I had until I let it slip from my grasp. She really did break me in two

Comment by SarahC 12.03.08 @ 3:04 pmIt might be “she’s holding her tonic like a crutch”
Comment by Rachel 12.03.08 @ 6:06 pmThis song was stuck in my head after hearing it only once - that never happens. I can relate but in a backwards kinda way and I hope someday he sees me and it does break him in two.

and loved it….
This is poetry.
Comment by Joseoh Devine 12.18.08 @ 11:44 pmSo I am reading over these comments here, one after the other, and just as I suspected, everybody loves this song for the same reason…Everyone has felt this way at some point in their lives, and thats the very essence of what makes a great song. Going out on a limb here as an incredibly picky “music snob,” this song is amongst the very great poetically, emotionally written songs in my personal favorites category. And I wouldn’t say that lightly. The closest it has to come to, too stir this type of emotion in me is Roger Waters’ Amused To Death album, Floyd’s Final Cut, or Nathan Moores- I saw Her. Those are big shoes too fill ya know! I thought the line “Your friends say you look like you just saw a ghost,” was tearing me down when I first heard it, then when I heard the line “You don’t care what you look like your world is falling down…..” and on and on simply left me feeling shipwrecked in my emotional wreck of a past. POWERFUL lyrics, hard to come by, good delivery, even harder! Thanx guys! C.
Comment by corey 12.20.08 @ 9:28 pmThe first time I heard this song I cried, It’s so beautiful and emotional.

Comment by Andrea 12.31.08 @ 12:25 pmThis song is my favorite right now, I love intense songs. I hope they play it tonight on New Years Eve wherever I happen to be.
Comment by Alexis 12.31.08 @ 6:23 pmMy room mate brought this cd home the other day and played this song specifically, he just went through a nasty divorce, and she put him through hell on the way, we never really talked about his situation, but after hearing this song, we don’t have to, I read the lyrics and it tore me apart. I recently started seeing the woman who is the love of my life, we were apart for 14 years, I got married and tried to forget her but never could, I have thrown everything away to be with her, and it’s been rocky, I played this song for her and I could see the tears well up in her eyes. She did this to me, and I to her. We have all lived this beautiful song at one time or another, good job guys!
Comment by Fitz 12.31.08 @ 7:57 pmi love this song so much, it perfectly describes my mood and the way that i see relationships… bittersweet and temporary; yet i wish they would last. pulls @ ur heart strings and at the same time, reminds you of all that you had before it went wrong… its so wonderful.
Comment by Savannah Anderson 01.02.09 @ 7:40 pmThis song is amazing

Comment by Nicole 01.08.09 @ 5:38 pmAmazing! Words are perfect…
Comment by Steve 01.08.09 @ 9:47 pmI gotta agree with everyone else on this. definitely emotive…. and yeah…. first time I heard this was RIGHT AFTER I found out that the only woman I’ve ever loved (and of course, lost) is 4 months pregnant. I know “men arent supposed to cry” but even after 7 years… it was incredibly hard not to. Phenomenal song. Two thumbs, and two big toes way up.
Comment by marc 01.09.09 @ 2:31 pmAbsolutely amazing song, gave me shivers when I first heard it, powerful lyrics, and EXTREMELY easy to relate to.
Reminds me a hell of a lot of “With or without you”

Comment by Cece 01.10.09 @ 8:32 pmwow these lyrics are tough man. im in this situation, well kinda. but yeah lyrics choke me up everytime. great song!
Comment by stevie gibson 01.11.09 @ 1:35 pmThe best poetry is of love, love lost, or longing for love. This song so eloquently intertwines all three ingredients. Its truth makes your heart ache. Its truth rekindles what some of us may have hopelessly longed to forget. Yet, its truth gives a comfort that I am not alone when it comes to being alone.
Comment by Nathan 01.12.09 @ 4:48 amIt’s five in the morning.
I haven’t slept all night.
This song was on VH1.
This song has emotion.
Men write songs that fit anything.
It makes me think.
I listened to this song and said, “This fits a lot.”
It is beautiful.
I can’t describe how I feel.
This song is almost too good to be true, best song I’ve heard in QUITE sometime!
Comment by Sandra 01.12.09 @ 7:10 pmyou have no idea how amaaaaaaazing i think this song is… when i see my ex this song pops in my head… its pretty sad

Comment by Dave 01.13.09 @ 5:05 pmamazing song, beat and lyrics too. his voice just gets rougher throughout and the hairs on my neck just ping! love it, love, LOVE IT!
Comment by dave c. B-O-T 01.16.09 @ 9:14 ami heard this song from my daughter’s room (she is home from college on winter break). i asked her who it was–told her it was “an anthem-like song where the singer has the kind of voice i like” and she was able to identify it for me on her mix cd.
and really, what has it to do with me (i’m too old for this)? i know i’ve felt that way before, and hope i never do again, but still…i love that song. it isn’t so much the lyrics as the melody and the way it builds.
Comment by julia 01.17.09 @ 12:14 amFirst time a song made me cry the first time I heard it. It pulls you right back into the pain of a sad memory…
Comment by Lea 01.17.09 @ 1:07 amLyrics are truely masterfull, the song isn’t really my style, but i still like it

Comment by elizabeth 01.27.09 @ 8:52 pmThis song is AMAZING. I am listening to it right now. I love it sooo much!!
Comment by Becca 01.28.09 @ 10:03 amI think the last part isn’t ” you just have to see her” cause it doesn’t really make sense with the rest of the song. I think that its actually “you just HAD to see her”
Comment by Anonymous 01.29.09 @ 4:38 amWow Wow Wow…This has to go on my desert island list
Comment by Ade 01.29.09 @ 10:24 amthese lyrics are SO meaningful!
i love it so much!
I heard this song for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it’s haunted me ever since. Many people here have compared it to “With or Without You,” and it does sound like a harder version of U2. Beautiful song, I’m absolutely in love with it.
Comment by Heather 02.03.09 @ 1:16 amThis song is absolutely awsome! I can relate to it completely and can not stop playing it.
Comment by john 02.03.09 @ 4:17 pmThis song is abnsolutely AMAZING!!! reminds me of the short story “Winter Dreams” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Great Great song…
Comment by Phil 02.03.09 @ 10:36 pmThis song is just fantastic. It really does appeal to a broad range of ages, considering I’m only 16, and someone who ‘grew up in the 80’s’ posted up there. Even though the lyrics don’t really apply to me personally, it still brings back memories.
Comment by Andrew 02.05.09 @ 11:32 amAwesome…crux is a main moment or smth like that
Comment by V. 02.05.09 @ 2:13 pmI want to cry everytime I hear this. The person I know I should have been with and I never got together and now we’re both married to other people. That’s what I think of everytime I hear this. And this song is what I think of every time I talk to him.
Comment by xxANONxx 02.05.09 @ 2:44 pmi heard this song on the radio and barely listened to the lyrics, then the other day i really sat down and did. i liked it, for its singing and beat and stuff and then when it said, then she leaves, with someone you don’t know.
But she makes sure you saw her.
She looks right at you and bolts.
As she walks out the door,
your blood boiling
your stomach in ropes.
Oh and when your friends say,
“What is it? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
i had a pang in my heasrt. because that is just so true. im a girl and thats something i would do, but ive also had that done to me and it hurts. you just wwant to curl up into a ball and cry and then yell at that person who did this to you. then you just want to kiss them and have it be perfectly harmonious and everything will be complete, even when you know your really setting yourself up for a major breakdown when its time to leave this person. the whole human psych is combined into this narrative of a song. amazing.
cant get over how great it is
Your friend looks at you an says what is it, it looks like you seen ghost,
powerful, powerful, the rage, wow. Just awesome.
Comment by Anonymous 02.06.09 @ 6:39 pmactually, in the 4th part
instead of “she looks right at you and bolts”
its “she looks right at you and boasts”
Comment by haileym. 02.08.09 @ 11:48 amWhat can I say! This is thee… best… song I have heard in ages! By far!

Comment by Anonymous 02.15.09 @ 8:15 pmI just turned “she” and “her” into “he” and “him/his” and I wondered how you knew about my story
thank you for this wonderful, heratbreaking piece of love!
I’m in love with the lead singer! Such a deep, loving song.

Comment by Anonymous 02.20.09 @ 11:49 pmI think that one lines is “you haven’t seen IT for awhile” not her. i could be wrong but it sounds like “it” too me and seems to make more sense since it’s referring to the white dress.
Comment by nick 02.22.09 @ 3:36 amgreat song. I can definitely relate to the lyrics at this point in my life, im feeling all these emotions right now… but does anyone feel like the song could use a chorus?

Comment by Anonymous 02.28.09 @ 1:26 amThis song reminds me alot of the Silver Sun Pickup’s Lazy Eye. Check it out, you will like it.
Comment by Pete 03.02.09 @ 11:21 amWhat an awesome song…found it on one of the cable music channels a couple weeks ago…had to see the words. For anyone that’s ever been crushed and then dreaded maybe running into “her” again someday…like me. This song goes right to to that place.
Comment by Jess 03.02.09 @ 10:53 pmwomen can be so cruel! they get so invloved with their own emotions, that they dont give a fuck who they hurt and how bad they hurt them.
Comment by Anonymous 03.04.09 @ 5:30 pmI love this song. It is so beautifully written, it makes my heart ache and my eyes tear up every time I hear it. Can’t say it ever happened to me before, but that just shows how much emotion is in the music and lyrics.
Comment by Anh 03.06.09 @ 9:53 amThis song absolutely killed me, too. I cry everytime I hear it. It’s positively beautiful and perfect on so many levels.

Comment by lady_in_awe 03.08.09 @ 8:27 pmi hate that it doesnt really end!!
Comment by Anonymous 03.08.09 @ 9:41 pm“women can be so cruel! they get so invloved with their own emotions, that they dont give a fuck who they hurt and how bad they hurt them.”
Amen, brother.
Comment by Gunns 03.10.09 @ 12:20 amReminds me of U.K misic from the 80s. ove it!
Comment by Anonymous 03.10.09 @ 6:32 pmi always thought it said “she’s holding that tonic like a Christ” at the last supper?? look at the video it seems like it =]”
Comment by nono 03.12.09 @ 1:41 pmI still think it says “You so care what you look like” not “You just don’t care…” It’s an exaggerated, sarcastic use of “so.” I don’t hear anything that sounds like “don’t” in that lyric at all.
Comment by Anonymous 03.12.09 @ 11:42 pmthe video could have been so much better..
how about showing him walking under the street lights with everyone looking at him or the girl walking out the door with another guy?
song 10/10
video 6/10
“women can be so cruel! they get so invloved with their own emotions, that they dont give a fuck who they hurt and how bad they hurt them.”
This is not all true…we r not all the same…I feel for the song because I have been there and it hurts to see them with someone else…I always tried to give everything and more and it was never enough…I can heal ur wounds if you can keep me safe…how about it?
Comment by Shorty 03.16.09 @ 5:41 pmHeard it for the first last night in the car. Can’t get it off my mind now. You live the song like is about you…sad but I guess everybody had to live this story before ![]()
GREAT SONG!
This song gives me boners ![]()
Its just so powerful, it’s been a while since a song made me feel so much, expecially when i can’t relate. It’s a beautiful work of art.
Comment by melanie 03.20.09 @ 4:44 pmIt is a sad song, and ive been through that before too,but right now the girl im involve with have it as our song,we also see it from a different angle that you get at the end of the song,no matter what you just have to see her, regardless of all that might have happened or whats going on,you just have to see her
Comment by Carlos 03.22.09 @ 8:09 pmi heard this for the first time this morning and i cried.
its so strange but i love it
i first heard this yesterday night on the radio…
reminds me mostly of my summer romance from this past year. damn.
Love the words.i guess everyone has been there at one point in time
Comment by Josh 03.25.09 @ 3:27 pmThis song is amazing, i can’t do anything when i listen to it. It just puts me in a daze and just chills me out the music is beautiful along with the lyrics. Currently my favorite song i can’t stop listening to it!
Comment by megan 03.26.09 @ 10:43 pmthe first time i heard this song, i never really paid attention to the lyrics. i thought it had a great beat, but it wasnt until the second time i heard it that i decided to look up the lyrics. so i played the song as i learned the lyrics and it just completely blew me away! i can relate to this song in many ways. greatest song ever!
Comment by johnny 03.27.09 @ 12:07 pmI love the fact that the song has no chorus, no bridge, no catchy hooks, and yet it still has commercial potential. The closest thing you get to repetitive structure is “You just have to see her” 5x over at the end of the song.
Comment by TW 03.27.09 @ 3:33 pmAwesome Song, I just heard it and it’s perfect. Had to know words. Perfect is the only word for this song.
Comment by JMP 03.29.09 @ 4:05 amIncredible song, my 22 yr old daughter, Gabriella’s favorite. She was killed by woman who ran her down in a crosswalk in Baltimore the day after Valentine’s Day ..this song is exactly like her and the power she had over men..she was killed in the street and the guy with her survived…lying in the streetlights….so many eerie coincidences between them and this song. I will always love you Gabby–you are breaking us all in two!!!! We just have to see you…we just have to see you…we just have to see you…..!!!
Comment by suzanne camejo 03.29.09 @ 10:01 pmthis is a good song!!! damn i feel like i was gonna star crying!! awesome!!
Comment by joel cervantes 03.30.09 @ 2:39 pmNew favorite song. I like the constant build up and no chorus. It really nails a specific moment that is hard to describe for me, not for toxic event. Good call with the lazy eye ref. Reminds me too.
Comment by Stoney 03.31.09 @ 2:10 pmyeah the verse when he says “Then she leaves, with someone you don’t know.
But she makes sure you saw her.
She looks right at you and bolts.”
is so sad! cuz that happened (even though im a girl) and it makes me wanna cry!
but this song ROCKS! and its my favorite song.
This song is good. I dont know how something so good could have been written like a year ago and im just now hearing it. Pisses me off lol
Comment by Dustin 03.31.09 @ 6:11 pmI Really love this song!!!
It is so Nice!!!
I saw this group on The Dave Letterman Show. They were awsome, check out the youtube video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG7LvRC12Jo
This is one of those songs that pull you in so deep that you lose track of time. It’s as if you’re within the moment with the guy, and you’re linked to every emotion tearing him apart.
I’ve probably listened to this song 50 times today (after buying it, of course), and still it brought a tear to my eye just minutes ago.
Comment by Jay 04.01.09 @ 9:57 pmthis has got to be one of the best songs writtin in the past 25 years!!!!!!!!!!!!! and just love the heartbreak and the having to be a man and live with it.
Comment by Arsanic 04.02.09 @ 3:17 pmthis song and band was far more enjoyable before having to read a slew of gushing, vanilla comments.
Comment by maureen 04.04.09 @ 2:20 pmI heard this song the frist time at 4:30 in the morning after my alarm radio came on. I was woken up from a semi-sleep state with the music and lyrics ringing in my mind. I had the chills running down my spine and all over my body. What a powerful song this is. It took me nearly 3 weeks to hear it again in a mentally alert state adn find out what the name of the group adn the song was. The second time around was an awakening of itself. Parts of it were so powerful adn the emotions deep and heartfelt. More than any other song I have heard since listening to Evanescence’s My Immortal for the first time. I haven’t been able to get enough of “Sometime Around Midnight” yet. I know I will eventually but for now, I will put my iPod on repeat and listen to it, burning the words into my heart forever. Congradulations to The Airborn Toxic Event for creating this wonderful song.
Comment by Jerrie 04.05.09 @ 12:30 pmi agree =)

As amazing as this song is that one dudes right. GREAT SONGS ARNT MEANT TO BE BUMMED OUT TO. Yeah the lyrics are tearjerkes but that shouldnt mean you actualy have to bawl about them. Just enjoy the art of it man!
Comment by Anonymous 04.13.09 @ 11:46 amFirst off it is cross not crux I have the CD and the lyric book it came with also this who ever wrote this -> “You just don’t care what you look like,
the world is falling around you”
it’s NOT “you so care…”

Stop trying to change the song buy the damn CD and read the damn lyrics and for the people who want to know the lyrics on this page are right I just checked also great song I love the cello in it and the lyrics ring true to so many people I love The Airborne Toxic Event.
Comment by Dani 04.15.09 @ 5:05 pmWow……This is just one of those songs that well never be able to keep out of our minds when were around someone we love. Its just like that song “Under The Bridge” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers… It just tears your mind apart and melts your heart…amazing
Comment by Julz 04.15.09 @ 5:07 pmBeen looking for this song for a while… Some music is perfect for when you’re really hurting.

Comment by *Liz* 04.16.09 @ 3:51 pmI’m single at the moment but in the future I’ll couple again and this song is going to come back and haunt me in break ups to come. You just have to see her, you just have to see her, you know that she’ll break you in two will become the litany for all my doomed relationships henceforth

Comment by Anonymous 04.19.09 @ 1:13 pmI’m not generally interested in this genre, but I heard this song on the radio on the ride home from work one day and was stunned by the poetic beauty of the lyrics. Forget the song as good music, it’s good WRITING!
Comment by Ren 04.21.09 @ 4:23 pmHave you ever been the one who walks out leaving your ex with a “change in emotion”?
Better to be the nail. Beautiful time warp though.
Comment by Frank 04.21.09 @ 10:15 pmI’m 50 years old, been listening to rock music for almost 40 years, and this is one of the greatest hurt/love songs I’ve ever heard.
Lyrically chilling while musically invigorating - and sung with such stunning and emphatic emotional need. Mesmerizing. It’s already in my all time top 50 songs.
Comment by Joe 04.26.09 @ 11:01 pmThis songs kills me. It’s so fricken good and true. I could play this song again and again and never grow tired of it. But the best part is the lyrics. It’s sad as hell but it helps. We all deal with that pain and it helps when there’s music for it. Thanks.
Comment by Black Cancer 04.27.09 @ 5:55 pm[...] Perchè può andare anche peggio di “around midnight”. [...]

Comment by XRumerTest 05.03.09 @ 4:35 pmThis song moved me with its emotion and melody. I love the story it tells even though it is so heartbreaking. The beauty of being able to express such a feeling/experience is profound and fortunate. So many people hold their emotions inside. It’s lovely to see that though an emotion can be so painful it can also be beautiful and remind us of the variance of emotions that make us all human. Beautiful!
Comment by Linnea 05.03.09 @ 7:05 pmwow… this has happened to me… :/
Comment by Anonymous 05.04.09 @ 8:44 pmThis is such an amazing song. The first time I heard it I hardly took notice, but the second time, when I actually listened to the lyrics…wow.

notice there is no Chorus?
Comment by j 05.08.09 @ 9:16 amYes, this is a very sad song. It is so amazing in my eyes though.
What is more sad, is reading all of these comments about past lovers. That is all so depressing as well.
Love the song! I heard it in the car and was waiting for the chorus but there wasn’t one. Every song needs a chorus according to my friends, but this song is so great it just doesn’t need one.

I love this song!
Comment by Stephanie 05.23.09 @ 4:50 pmIf I didn’t know better, I’d swear the songwriter knew me in college because I was the girl who left with someone he didn’t know and I made damn sure he saw me. Mesmerizing tune and lyrics - one of my new faves.

Who hasn’t that happened too when you see someone you loved so much?! This song is great. Goes straight to the heart!
Comment by Amy 05.28.09 @ 4:42 pmI’ve been listening to this song on repeat… I think I secretly hope that this is how my ex feels for me… my marriage ended before it began… but I know when he looks at me that he still loves me… and in everything he writes, it may be abstract, but I know him so well… or maybe I read what I want to… this song brings up a lot of emotion that I thought I was doing a good job of hiding… and I’m the she of this song… completely.
Comment by Kat 05.29.09 @ 12:34 ami love this song and i know what they feel when the one u still love cames close to u a then just leaves with someone in your face. i felt so betrayed.a can just relate to your jam thanks for showing me am not the olny one that feels it

Comment by elektra 06.06.09 @ 2:45 pmThe greatest and worst part of this song is how true it rings to so many. There is one woman who does this to me every time I see her. Last night was particularly true to the song down to being drunk and upset. Today I heard the song on the radio and couldn’t believe how to the T this song hit.
Comment by Matt 06.07.09 @ 10:11 pmthat was my night to a “T” last night. and yes she was wearing a white dress.

Comment by Tats 06.10.09 @ 2:24 pmOMG, I almost had this exact experience the other night… white dress, was even around midnight….except she didn’t ask how I was or look at me, but other than that, almost exact same. Wow.
Comment by Jason 06.11.09 @ 9:52 pmThis is exactly what has happened to me. I can listen to this song a hundred times a day and I still end up totally blown away.
Comment by Hanne 06.12.09 @ 10:26 amthis is the most beautiful song i have ever heard. i can feel this guy’s emotions. i can really get into this song, its amazing. you can imagine this girl and feel how this guy is feeling. thats what makes a song so perfect. …. “you just have to see her, you just have to see her, you just have to see her… you know she’ll break you in two.” this song…is just so amazing and heartbreaking too. it makes me think of a guy in my life.
Comment by Lorelai 06.13.09 @ 6:52 pmDefinitley a tear-jerker every time I hear it. Going down this comment list, what strikes me as interesting is how many women are affected by this song as guys are. Gives me hope in some ways.

Comment by Steph 06.17.09 @ 1:16 amAWESOME SONG… one of the best new releases in years… destined to be a big hit!
Comment by ront 06.17.09 @ 8:49 amThis song is a beautiful tragedy…. so good but so sad, I fell in love with it.. Because its so true for most of us.
Comment by Mary 06.17.09 @ 9:36 pmAgreed with what everyone else has said: it’s a beautiful & emotional song, both tune and lyric wise.
But I have to say, that part of the song that got me the first time I heard it, was the very first verse, especially the line “And the band plays some song about forgetting yourself for a while.” I guess it’s because sometimes, when things get really tough, I just like to forget about everything by going to a live concert. Everytime I hear a song like this live, I just realize that my problems arent that bad after all….I just, you know…forget about myself. But that’s just me though.
Anyways…amazing song. LOVE IT.

Comment by kristyn was here. 06.18.09 @ 10:17 pmWhat an emotionaly poetic song. It tells a story and it’s absolutely beyond words of what I think of the song! When I first heard the song I teared up because I can relate to it. Ah what an AMAZING song!
Comment by Amelia 06.19.09 @ 12:16 pmThe only boy I’ve ever loved broke up with me a month ago. This is the only thing that brings some comfort, and yet it is the only thing that succeeds in making break down all over again. But I can’t stop listening.
Comment by Katie 06.20.09 @ 12:12 amI heard this driving in the car [around midnight] with my windows down and lights all lit up around me, it hit me, I turned my stereo up and just let music fill the void. It was heartbreaking and beautiful and amazing
Comment by Jessica 06.23.09 @ 8:37 amthis song makes my balls tingle!
Comment by Matt B 06.23.09 @ 4:46 pmThe first time I heard this song I was drawn to the U2/Morrissey sound it had. I wasn’t paying attention to the lyrics until about the 3rd time I listened. I came to this site and read all the lyrics while listening to the song…. it brought a surge of sadness and unfortuantely familiarity.
Comment by Nicole 06.26.09 @ 10:26 amHey Maureen-
I can tell you are such a “non-gusher” and sooo 31st flavor! I too found the band and song more enjoyable before all the “gushing and vanilla comments”. Why? Because now the song and the band are DIFFERENT! These positive comments have somehow changed the lyrics and the melody of the song, and probably the make-up of the whole band! In fact, their new name is “What the Heck Do These Comments Have to Do With My Enjoyment of a Song?”. Cynical is O.K.,nonsensical is not.
f-kin awesome song
im no pansy but every time i listen 2 dis song my emotional side shows
…
btw its “she’s holding her tonic like a cross”
To all the youngsters who hear/feel the brilliance here — please do yourselves a favor and listen to everything The Smiths have ever done. Please, just do it. Cheers, from someone much older.

Comment by danielle 06.30.09 @ 1:27 amthis song breaks my heart … the pulse, the beat, is frantic and as it builds to crescendo, it practically borders on madness…i don’t think i’ve ever listened to any song as loud as I feel the need to listen to this one — it speaks to me like nothing i’ve ever heard or read. i wish the band a long and very successful career!

Comment by Mary Connor 07.12.09 @ 2:28 pmWow. I had to find out who wrote/sang this. Awesome song. Poignent lyrics - stating something that has happened to most of us with such truth. First time I ever heard feral in a song.

Comment by kco 07.16.09 @ 12:36 amDoes anyone else think this song sounds a little too much like LCD Soundsystem’s All My Friends? It seems like this song lifted the tempo and lyrical framework from that song pretty closely…
Comment by mtron 07.17.09 @ 9:27 amwow, serious chills while reading the lyrics and listening to the song..amazing!
Comment by Nicole 07.17.09 @ 5:59 pmAbsolutely, one of the most emotion-evoking songs I’ve ever heard. What a performance…even if you didn’t know any of the words, the escalation of the song conveys the turmoil he is in. Awesome!

Comment by maegan 07.26.09 @ 7:11 pmthe way this song builds as you move through each stanza of lyrics, just amazing… and I am obviously not alone in thinking so. I love that!
Comment by Raphael 07.27.09 @ 10:22 amThis song just struck me like a bolt of lightning, a startling awakening that brought tears to my eyes as I realised that it was true. He broke up with me through a text message after saying the day before he was going to spend the rest of his life with me. And he continues to rub his new girl in my face. He comes to me when he has problems with her, and, me being the psychologist I am, I help him even though it rips me to shreds. Says he’s not ready for commitment but is now living with her. And yet I still care about him. I don’t know what to do but I continue to try my best. I just keep going on… I’ll never be completely over him. I know this. I’m just glad there’s people I can count on to always love me.
Okay didn’t mean to give my life story. This song just evokes such powerful emotions. I stay up for hours just to listen to it on vh1. I anxiously await each listen. And even though I’m female, my voice is more of an alto, so I hit those low notes… Haha.
All in all, this song is glorious and deserves many awards. I loved this song the minute I heard it. Thank you, TATE. You are amazing.
Comment by Meagan_Kyori 07.29.09 @ 10:32 amIt Kills To Hear This Song Because It Speaks So Much Truth….It’s My Broken Hearts Words…

Comment by CLARE 07.31.09 @ 9:47 pmAhhh, reminds me of a time. Never again though… met a better woman after the rain and more than a few nice stops in the storm
WELL PLAYED A.T.E.!!
this is one of the songs that wish u could right down the lyrics, go back in time, and try to create it yourself while taking the glory for it. dont get me wrong, the airborne toxic event did an amazing job, i just wish could say i wrote because the song is so amazing and everyone loves it including me!!!
Comment by dyaln 08.02.09 @ 12:02 amThis song is the epitaph of a life experience I’ve had…like so many people. I listen to a band on a fairly regular basis that sings about “forgetting” for a while.
And I often ask one of the members how he is, but then leave because I know I don’t have much of a chance to talk to him other than superficially. But, I always make sure he sees me, and he knows it.
I cant believe how amazing this song is… The first time I heard I was so captured by the raw emotion that I literally found myself in tears. This song is so perfect.
Comment by taylor 08.05.09 @ 9:01 pmI get goosebumps every time he screams, “Your friends say, “What is it? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” The scene that plays out in the song has happened to everyone who has ever loved and lost.
Comment by Colleen 08.06.09 @ 9:15 amI think alot of girls (women) are like this…
very well written song. who is worse? the fool or the fool who follows? watch out for women like this gents!
Unfortunately I will have to add this song to the list of songs that my therapist does not want me to listen to. I am going through a divorce and this song brings me to my knees. Uggh, just thinking about it makes me well up.
Comment by chris 08.13.09 @ 12:07 pmI love this song even if it’s something that totally kicks your heart, especailly if, like me, you can sympathise with it. I think everyone must have had someone at some point who has done this to them. (Y) (Y)
Comment by Beth 08.13.09 @ 12:20 pmI love this song. I’m a sucker for songs like this.
Comment by Dee Aceves 08.13.09 @ 11:46 pmThis song makes me appreciate my husband and how much we love eachother! I love you hubby.
Comment by Dee 08.13.09 @ 11:54 pmI dont want to feel something like this, or any other thing, anymore. what i SHOUL DOOOOO!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
I love this song, so very much. Just the simple message it’s putting across actually brings other memories to me than just the blantant love-trouble.
I adore the lyrics, “you blood boiling, your stomach in ropes. And your friends say what is it? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
And.
“you just have to see her,
you know that she’ll break you in two.”
This is my latest favorite song. I love the lyric, I love the way the song builds, I love the music, I love the vocals, I love this song. :o)
Comment by Bob 08.14.09 @ 7:34 pmyou can feel it, i could never have the strength to tap back into a moment like that, to describe how much it actually means, to make it real again, its like that night still lives in the song.
Comment by Anonymous 08.16.09 @ 10:07 amThe correct word in the song is “Crux” which is Latin for cross.
Comment by brian 08.18.09 @ 7:58 amSo unlike everyone else, I heard the song a bunch of times before it really struck me. It was always on the radio at work, but as it’s only background music, I never paid attention. However, I happened to see the music video the other day, and that’s when it really hit me.
Great song, great lyrics. I’m a fan now.
Comment by Anonymous 08.18.09 @ 1:33 pmThere is nothing more perfect than the lyrics mixed with the melody of this song. I listen to it and I’m literally in another world. Completely addicted! It’s beautiful.
Comment by Jenny 08.19.09 @ 3:08 amEverytime I’m cleaning or checking my myspace I listen to this song! It’s incredible how this songs has various meanings and how it makes you really think about certain things. I love you The Airborne Toxic Event!!! Come live with me in Odessa, Texas! ![]()
Just, wow.
Comment by Reb 08.19.09 @ 6:51 pmthia song hits hard my boyfriend had stayed the night with two girls before and twice hes kissed one of the girls and another. we were like engaged and he left to WY state and the last time he saw me was when he said he cant be w/ me and i had tears down my face and walked out the door.
“But she makes sure you saw her.
She looks right at you and bolts.
As she walks out the door,
your blood boiling
your stomach in ropes.”
that reminds me of that day

Comment by abby 08.28.09 @ 5:49 pmAaaw, after reading all these comments, it makes me feel like im not the only one going through an emotional phase with this song :’(
And thats a good thing…cuz i thought i was lonely and stuff…but recently some guy lead me on good for a couple months…he’s gorgeous..and ofcoarse i followed…i work with him and his ex gf, & well this is a complicated story, but everytime i’d go to work, its like this song says ” she leaves, but makes you I saw them, she looks right at me and goes” every time i worked with them it was the same scenario. It’s as if they wer purposely trying to make me feel this way. With a broken heart…
It still hurts….
Comment by steph 08.29.09 @ 1:23 pmDamn, I knew I was emotionally defective, I’ve honestly never felt this way about anyone!
To me the song was always more about the games people play in relationships (the way she makes sure he see’s her), rather than the loss of love itself. It’s very well observed and I can well believe the number of people who’ve had it done to them.
It’s beautiful, it’s flawed, it’s human.
Comment by El 08.29.09 @ 7:05 pmThis song is dedicated to me by someone I’ve hurt a lot… and I’m that girl, leaving with someone he doesn’t like, not the someone he doesn’t know… I love this song so much. It hurts knowing you can hurt someone so much.
Comment by Anonymous 08.30.09 @ 10:33 amshes holding her tonic like a crux. not cross
Comment by erwin 09.01.09 @ 10:25 amWhen I first heard this song, I just liked it for the beat and the way it gets bigger and bigger until the song sounds like it might boil over. After truly listening to the lyrics however, this song is so much more than that. It is heartbreaking and makes you feel so… indescribable. We’ve all been there. It’s poetic and written beautifully.
Comment by Anonymous 09.01.09 @ 5:19 pmthis song is the best i´ve heard in a long time.
Comment by leyver 09.02.09 @ 11:55 amI love this song! This is my song with my love:)
Comment by Stephanie 09.05.09 @ 12:21 amthis song broke my heart.
this has happened to me so many times… it hurts so bad
it’s described perfectly in this song
this indeed has ALOT of powerful meaning, and although it clearly has to do w/ what its talking about i would so like for my ex to feel this after he cheated on me and then regretting all the lies he told me and wishing we could be together again. i will have moved on and will be too late because i will be w/ someone else. after all the pain he caused me it would only be his fault for feeling that way.
Comment by Anonymous 09.10.09 @ 12:25 pmim so glad i stumbled across this song on satellite music tv. if i had procastinated any longer on laundry i woulda missed it. This is an emotional masterpiece.

Comment by Dale 09.11.09 @ 10:58 pmokay thats not enough. i have to say more. this song hit me the first time, and it was just the day after i had hung out with my 8 month ex, and she made an advance on me. one of the happiest days fever for me, yet i still cried when i heard the song. it was the story of the last 8 months of my life. i dont want it to happen again this time. its nice to know your not the only one.
Comment by Dale 09.11.09 @ 11:07 pm‘For some reason parts of this song vaguely remind me of Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises. I enjoy it thoroughly’
that is the exact book i was thinking about when i hear this song. the same type of scenerio when they are in one of the many clubs and the main characters are involved.. this is an amazing song and it really affects me because im going through this situation right now.

Comment by izzy 10.03.09 @ 3:58 amWow this song is it.You and everybody knows what its like to feel that pain. The pain and power that can bring you to your knees.and make that tear roll from a mans eye.In my opinion nothing is more powerful than a womens scorn nothing.NOTHING.Lol its so bad its funny.I am glad to not be alone. And an old wise man my (father),said in time in time with a smile on his face said you will heal and be back on your feet.So true so true lol.Great song.YOU just dont care what you look like the world is falling around you.Lmao

Comment by Del 10.03.09 @ 5:04 pmYou know a song is good, when it is the ONLY song used in the movie “Eagle Eye,” which is a great movie by the way. I love the story this song tells. Best lyrics ever
Comment by Paxton 10.06.09 @ 10:39 pmI was on my way home from Columbus to Cincinnati when I first heard this song on the radio. I had to pull into an I-71 South rest stop to keep from balling my eyes out while driving.
This song really hit me where it counts. I’ve been in-love once in my life, and was told by her afterward that IF I had fought for her things would have gone differently. Instead I let her walk away without so much as a word. Months later she was with someone else and I was left still picking up the pieces of my broken heart. Such is life though.
I love this song!! Search YouTube for their performance from the Daavid Letterman Show. Good stuff!

“but she makes sure you saw her.” that’s the kicker. that’s the moment in the song where my heart broke into two, because it’s happened to me too many times.
as you can tell, i’m a sucker for lyrics, too.
