Electric Toy Danger – Girl at War

…….…………….……………………….……….……………….………

Matt Squires to Recycled Love Songs on the track “Girl at War” from their new EP Cut and Print:

“it’s centered around the way the narrator sees a girl. he knows her better than she knows herself, and he wants her to be authentic, and to stay innocent, and to value who she is. the frustration eventually comes pouring out in the chorus, where he is pleading that she save herself. That’s my interpretation of it, but I think the words are open ended enough to where different people can get different ideas of what exactly is going on. More than the message of the song, I think what I like about it is the feeling. The message kind of comes from the general feeling. It’s pleading and remorseful, without being overly-sentimental or whiny. It was weird writing it because it came out so fast. it was written in like three hours, and it all just fell out. I’ve written a couple other songs in that vein, but they haven’t felt as therapeutic and raw as this one. It felt like I was saying something when I wrote it, but i wasn’t really conscious of what exactly I was saying.” -Matt Squires
